Armenia - Goshavank

Another place I like a lot, Goshavank is a rather small monastery on the top of a gentle hill. It's maybe not spectacular, but the quietness and subdued beauty makes it a really moving sight.
It was founded in the 12th century by Mkhitar Gosh to replace the monastery of Getik, destroyed in an earthquake. The earliest structure is the Mother of God church, from 1191, followed by two St Gregory chapels and their gavit (1208 and 1237). The library was added in 1291, but Mongol invaders set fire to its 1600 volumes in 1375.
